Video consultation
If you live outside Hermosillo, or you already have studies and want to understand them before travelling, a video consultation resolves much of the way. Here you will find what can be settled remotely and what requires you to come, what it costs, how to send your studies and how prescriptions work.

The essentials
- MXN $1,200, the same as an in-person consultation, via Doctoralia or Google Meet as you prefer.
- Your request is answered within 3 hours during opening hours, or when the next session opens.
- You send your studies in a single email to videoconsulta@dreduardoamaya.com, with your name in the subject line.
- The prescription is issued digitally after the consultation. Antibiotics are the exception, and I explain why below.
- There is no medical opinion without a consultation. Neither first nor second. It is a firm position and I explain the reason.
What can be settled remotely and what cannot
I start here because it decides whether booking is worth it. A video consultation is not a reduced version of an in-person one: it is useful for some things and useless for others, and I would rather you knew that before paying.

Put plainly
Some urologists offer video consultation as though it replaced everything. It does not. A good deal of urology is decided with the hands: the prostate is palpated, the scrotum examined, the bladder looked into. No camera replaces that.
What a video consultation does do, and does well, is save you journeys that were never needed: understanding what your studies mean, knowing whether your case requires surgery, reviewing a plan proposed elsewhere, and following up after an operation without driving four hours for a twenty-minute conversation.
How it works, step by step
- 1. You book. By WhatsApp or telephone. You choose Doctoralia or Google Meet, whichever suits you.
- 2. You pay to confirm. By bank transfer or through the BBVA payment portal, with a credit or debit card. The details are given to you by the practice assistant on +52 662 111 0782, by WhatsApp or call. Payment is made 24 hours in advance; without it the appointment is not confirmed.
- 3. You send your studies. To videoconsulta@dreduardoamaya.com, in a single email and with your full name in the subject line. Send them in good time: if they arrive during the consultation, half of it is spent opening them.
- 4. We consult. I review your studies before we connect, not during.
- 5. You receive your prescription and instructions digitally afterwards.
About response times
Every request is answered within 3 hours if it arrives during opening hours, or when the next session opens. This is not an emergency service: if you have a high fever, cannot pass urine or are in severe pain, go to an emergency department rather than wait for a video consultation.
Prescriptions: what to know beforehand
The prescription is issued digitally and sent to you after the consultation. It works without difficulty for most medicines.
Antibiotics are the exception. In Mexico many pharmacies require a physical prescription to dispense them, and that is the establishment’s rule, not mine. If your treatment includes one:
- If you live in Hermosillo, you can collect it from the practice assistant during opening hours.
- If you live elsewhere, there are two routes: come for it, or visit a pharmacy consulting room so they can issue the physical prescription based on the instruction. That is the most practical option and the one I usually recommend.
I say this in advance because it is the commonest friction in remote consultation and I would rather it did not take you by surprise at the counter.
Why I do not give opinions without a consultation
A firm position
I frequently receive messages with studies attached and the question "what do you think?". I do not answer that kind of enquiry, and it is not for want of willingness.
A medical opinion requires knowing your history, your background, your symptoms and the full context. An isolated figure or a single image can mean opposite things depending on who the patient is, and a quick answer based on that is not a favour: it is a risk, both of reassuring you when it is not warranted and of frightening you without cause.
That is why the only way to obtain an opinion, first or second, is within a consultation —in person or by video. There there is a history, a record and professional responsibility behind what is said.
Who it makes most sense for
- You live outside Hermosillo and want to know whether your case requires travelling before you do it.
- You already have a diagnosis and want to review the proposed plan before accepting it.
- You have recent studies and need to understand what they mean and what comes next.
- You are in postoperative follow-up and the review does not require physical examination.
- You live in the United States and are considering treatment in Mexico.
If you live in Hermosillo and your complaint requires examination —which in urology most do— an in-person consultation suits you better. I say so even though it means not selling you a video consultation.
